"My work in recent years has focused primarily on the African presence in the Americas; the continued tradition or African cultural influence in the new world. Specifically, celebrating the Yoruba culture in the new world is my goal. Although, I was academically trained, my work now is stylized. I’m inspired and influenced by the styles of African artists, such as Yoruba carvers, clothe weavers/dyers, potters, and griots. Celebrating our music, dance, motherhood, politics, and spirituality is my main objective." - Dayo
